Film, Theater & Web Portfolio (click here for list)
This list will continue to grow as I find more. Many of my old short films are on SVHS tapes. I’ll watch them to remind myself of their names, and eventually I should have them all digitized and available to view in the other pages in this section (well, all the ones remotely worth watching, that is).
TV Commercials
October 2004, “Holiday Portrait,” commercial. Position: PA. A family records a video e-card for their grandparents to send via Comcast Cable. Produced by D4 Creative group, where I was an intern.
January 2005, “Dollar Store 2,” commercial. Position: PA. A dollar store manager tries to teach a new crop of employees how much everything in the store costs (answer: One Dollar). Produced by D4 Creative Group for Comcast’s $1 Sale.
Student Films
Autumn 1998, “Radnor/Lower Merion Football, The 102nd Rivalry: Sentimental Package ‘98,” montage, SVHS color video, 3m20s. Position: Editor. A montage of moments from the Radnor/LM High School football rivalry throughout the years, cut together as a dramatic opening to the live broadcast on Radnor High School’s Channel 16.
Autumn 1999, “Radnor/Lower Merion Football, The 103rd Rivalry: Sentimental Package ’99,” montage, SVHS color video, 2m56s. Position: Editor. I was honored to have been asked to edit this two years in a row! Broadcast on Channel 16.
1999, “Hall,” short film, SVHS black & white video, 3m31s. Position: writer/director/cinematographer/editor. Two students get stuck in an interdimensional time warp, disguised as the longest hallway Radnor High School has ever seen. Set to the music of Kraftwerk, and with a surprise appearance by John Cleese (bet he’d be surprised too).
1999, “T2K #1,” short film, SVHS color video, 4m37s. Position: writer/director/cinematographer/editor. An amateur spy drama. We never did figure out what T2K was, but we managed to make 2 ½ episodes before Senioritis hit!
1999, “T2K #2,” short film, SVHS color video. Position: writer/director/cinematographer/editor. The second installment of our spy drama.
TV Shows
1998, “Us,” SVHS color videos, 2 half hour? Episodes. Position: editor, co-writer/director/cinematographer. Five of us got together to make a skit-show about, well, US, if by “us” we meant killer squirrels, a boy who loved his pet can a little too much, and other craziness reminiscent of shows like “Upright Citizen’s Brigade”. Broadcast numerous times on Radnor High School’s Channel 16.
1999-2000, “FilmFest!” SVHS color videos, 10+ episodes between 15m to 45m. Position: editor/cinematographer, co-director/writer. A showcase for Radnor High School filmmakers, interspersed with commentary, comedy, and extensive use of a blue screen to make up for the lack of a travel budget, or any other kind of budget. Some episodes filmed in studio, some on location at Villanova University and other sites. Broadcast weekly on Channel 16.
Sports & News Broadcasts
Autumn 1998 & 1999, “Radnor vs. Lower Merion Football,” multi-camera production, broadcast, SVHS color. Position: cameraman. Radnor and LM have one of the oldest football rivalries in the country, and It is a longstanding tradition to film the “big game” of the year for sale and for broadcast. When the game is at Radnor, it is broadcast live, and when it is at LM it is recorded. In either instance it was a large-scale production involving 3-4 cameras and everyone who considered the T.V. Studio home.
1997-2000, “Channel 16 News,” broadcast, SVHS color. Position: editor/videographer/set building. I was always more involved with the film side of the T.V. Studio but I did pitch in with our local news show occasionally. I shot and edited B-roll, was the videographer and editor for several packages, and helped to build the new news set when the Studio was moved to a new building.
1997-2000, “Channel 16 Sports: Radnor Basketball,” broadcast, SVHS color. Position: cameraman.
Theater
1999, “Variations on the Death of Trotsky,” multi-camera production, SVHS color video. Position: camera/editing (2 camera production). A friend directed this David Ives play as his senior project in high school, and asked me to coordinate the filming and editing of the piece.
1998-2000, Various Productions. Position: lights/sound/stage crew. After years of being in the chorus for middle and high school productions, I switched to the crew side, first as a general stage hand for the musicals, and later running the light and sound boards and designing lights for the musicals, theater class productions, choral, and band concerts.
2000, “Chinese New Year,” Position: light design. This production was staged by the Chinese school that used the Radnor High facilities on the weekends. They hired me to design the lighting and run the light board during the production.
2000, “Larry McKenna Concert,” Position: sound. Larry McKenna, a Radnor teacher who is also a singer and musician, held a concert at the school and asked me to run the sound board for him.
Web Sites & Internet Projects
2008, University of Pennsylvania Biomedical Library’s “PowerPoint 2007 Tutorial,” Position: web/graphic designer. It’s not quite live at UPenn yet, as while they let you upload HTML files, you have to send all graphics to someone else for approval first (why? I guess the average Joe at UPenn doesn’t listen when told “we want all graphics to be gifs”? That, or they just like making extra work for themselves). So for now I have the “test site” posted at Drexel: http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~bcs44/PPT/
2000, “AnimeX,” Position: project manager/producer/writer/web designer. In 2000 I organized a group of young artists and writers online in an attempt to create an original manga, with the ultimate lofty goal of making our creation into an anime. While we didn’t get that far, we did make a valiant effort, and managed to complete the first chapter of the manga (20 pages) and the script for the second chapter.
1995-2000, Freelance & Part-Time Web & Graphic Design. Position: web/graphic designer. I worked for both individuals and corporations through high school designing web sites. Clients and employers included a textile factory, a music teacher, a real-estate dot.com startup, and an internet provider, among others.
1997-1999, “Psychogenic,” Position: web/graphic designer, writer. A personal website collecting some of my writings, art, and music, most of which makes me cringe now as they drip with teen angst. Some pages are broken, but for better or for worse the website is still available at http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/1599
1998, “Screaming Dreaming,” Position: web/graphic designer. A David Bowie fansite devoted to collecting Bowie related dreams and fanfics from the active fan community online. Like Psychogenic, it’s somewhat embarrassing, but the site is still available at http://www.angelfire.com/pa/Torrent
